About
“Revenge”, a Minecraft parody of Usher’s “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love”, was posted to YouTube by CaptainSparklez on 19 August 2011. Sung from the point of view of a player who loses everything to a creeper, the green mob that explodes next to you, it opens with a line that became a catchphrase.
The song remained a favourite among Minecraft players, and in July 2019 it returned as a group chat ritual in which members typed its lyrics in order, line by line. The meme demonstrates how a game’s own vocabulary, a creeper and the feeling of losing your diamond pickaxe, can outlast any trend.
